FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE

Jill Morton Department Chairman

Paula Paquette, Middle School Teacher

Diane Gray, Middle School Teacher

The major goal of the Family and Consumer Science program is to prepare students to be proactive in managing life’s emerging issues. Family and Consumer Science education empowers individuals to function successfully in the multiple roles of family member, citizen, and worker.

At the high school as well as the middle level provision is made for experiences in developing life skills and a deeper understanding of the role of the family and society. Service to the community is an integral part of the high school curriculum. The curriculum integrates community interaction into each subject area and addresses the present and emerging needs of the students, the workforce, and the community. Career and workplace skills are emphasized and applied through School-to Career activities such as job shadowing and internship programs. The School-to-Career program allows Family and Consumer Science students to explore and plan their futures while still in high school. Scientific principles are applied in a practical approach to problems of consumer purchases, food preparation, child growth and development, career exploration, and management.
